Let's just grab a drink

Going for a casual beer or a glass of wine? Smart move if you don’t want to be tied down all night! Here are my bar recommendations for a quick drink, with potential to evolve to hours of chatting if all goes well.

1. Rooftop 58

Views views views. This is a great bar for a first-timer in Brussels. You get to see the entire city while having a drink on the fancy roof of the super central City Hall.

  • Go before sunset or there will be no view.
  • Bring a sweater, it’s windy!

2. Groupil Le Fol

A charming vintage old-town bar in the middle of the city. Its interior is an eclectic collection of ornaments, with something to look at in every corner. One of my own dates once said: “I like to bring my first dates here to see how they react to the chaos.”

  • Not for a chique date
  • Bring your adventurous/inquisitive/chaotic person here

3. Chateau Moderne

A true classic. Nowhere better than the top of Mont des Arts! You got the views, the sunsets, the live music, the people. The bar on top of the stairs is called Chateau Moderne: a classic amongst les Bruxellois.

  • Sit outside – the music is quite loud inside
  • It’s self service
  • It’s on the expensive side

Let's be classy

Not into casual beers, or you want to treat this lady with class? Bring her to one of Brussels’ best cocktail or wine bars. A good impression starts with a well-planned date.

4. Marcelle

If you want something more unique, with cocktails that will amaze you and your date, try Marcelle. The drinks are expensive, but the interior and the whole vibe are so worth it!

5. The English Pharmacy

A well known name in the city: the English Phrmacy. Perfectly located at the top of Mont des Arts, it allows for a great view over the city and perhaps a nice sunset before moving on to the drinks.

6. La Flaque

The wine bar you can’t miss if you’re in the center of Brussels. Right on the square of Saint-Catherine, it’s located just a stone’s throw away from the Grand Place. They serve a small selection of wines and their suggestions according to your taste pallette are spot-on!

7. The Hoxton

From the lobby bar all the way to the rooftop, this hotel has what you want. The Hoxton might be located in a sketchy neighborhood (sorry Botanique), but it’s giving luxury and class. Both the Mexican and Peruvian restaurants are great, vibes are high with frequent dj sets, and the crowds are business-classy. The cocktails on the rooftop might surprise you!

It's a coffee date

Yass girl, make it a wholesome day-date without any alcohol involved. Brussels has some great coffee places and cute spots for a lemonade or matcha with a nice little treat. I gochu.

8. Stella

Stella is named after the dog of the owner, who came to Brussels at the age of 18 and worked hard to start up his own coffee place. A beautiful story that spread quickly and widely! But this specialty coffee bar is not only great for its origin story; their menu is truly diverse and their bites (that egg bun, yummy!) are so tasty. Other than coffee, you can go for a variety of cool lattes like their rose water latte.

9. Bouche

Quality first? Bouche is hands down the best coffee spot I know in Brussels. It always just tastes… to die for. It’s a small place, but with a beautiful calming interior and a little outside terrace. If they’re full, grab your coffee to go and take a walk in the nearby Parc Royale.

10. Kosto

A fairly new spot in town! At the quickly developing canal area, Kosto opened its doors in the summer of 2024 and offers a variety of coffees, matchas, soft drinks and some local beers. Its interior is giving clean girl aesthetic and on a sunny day you’ll be able to catch lots of sunlight due to its location.
