Where to go for drinks in Brussels

Whether you're going for a few drinks after work, or ordering bottles on a Saturday night, here's a full list of the hottest bars in Brussels!

As the capital of Europe, obviously Brussels has a lot to offer. But with the way the city is organized, it can be hard to find the ideal spot to enjoy drinks with your friends. Brussels is a combination of diverse neighborhoods, but once you find your vibe, it’ll be easy to navigate! Let this article help you out.

Bar hopping neihborhoods

If you don’t want to choose a bar right away, just meet at one of Brussels’ vibrant bar hopping neighborhoods and see which bar you both vibe with!

In the heart of the city, still part of the Dansaert neighborhood (my favorite), lays Saint-Géry. Always vibrant and crowded, this place is a people magnet on sunny days! Following bars are worth checking out:

  • Mapa Mundo
  • Le Roi des Belges
  • Zebra
  • La Machine
  • Café des Halles

Adjecent to Dansaert, there’s the big churt with her beautiful fountains. There’s only a few bars, but the crowds are decent and pleasant.

  • Au Bassin
  • Café Merlo
  • La Flaque

Right outside the Pentagone (the 5-sided shape that marks the center of Brussels), you’ll find the Parvis in the South. It’s another square with bars and some hip food spots.

  • I have to admit I don’t go there often enough to know any bars 🥲

Seems like all these micro neighborhoods are positioned around old churches, interesting! Well, in front of the Saint-Boniface church you’ll find great food spots and some nice bars! The crowds there mostly consist of people working for the institutions around Schuman and lawyers from the big law firms around Louiza.

Do you find yourself more towards the North-East of the city? No problem, the Diamant area has a couple of cute spots too.

  • Perruche
  • Chez Felix
  • Le Saint-Georges

Casual bars for beers or a glass of wine

The amount of bars in Brussels is endless! And here are a few of my favorites, with each their own unique features. Click on their names to see more info!

Views views views. This is a great bar for a first-timer in Brussels. You get to see the entire city while having a drink on the fancy roof of the super central City Hall.

  • Go before sunset or there will be no view.
  • Bring a sweater, it’s windy!

Very central, yet not overcrowded: Strop is a charming bar on the corner of Sablon, and catches the last rays of sun due to its location. Great spot for a sunny day, with limited space inside.

  • Grab a drink, play some chess, and invite bartender John for a shot of tequila!

For a classy afternoon with a hint of Parisien, try to get a spot on the terrace of Chez Richard. All chairs face the fancy streets of Sablon, so you get to people watch while you sip on your bubbly!

A charming vintage old town bar in the middle of the city. Its interior is an eclectic collection of ornaments, with something to look at in every corner. Someone once said: “I like to bring my first dates here to see how they react to the chaos.”

Want to enjoy nature in the city? Have a drink at the cute little bar in Parc Royale. With the tables under the trees and the chairs being tree trunks, it has a cozy naturey vibe, combined with techno tunes.

A true classic. Nowhere better than the top of Mont des Arts! You got the views, the sunsets, the live music, the people. The bar on top of the stairs is called Chateau Moderne: a classic amongst les Bruxellois.

It's cocktail o'clock

Not into casual beers, or you want to treat this lady with class? Bring her to one of Brussels’ best cocktail bars: good impression guaranteed!

In the famous Dansaert area, you’ll find this well known cocktail bar at a walking distance from Grand-Place. It’s pricey, but it’s worth it!

If you want something more unique, with cocktails that will amaze you and your date, try Marcelle. The drinks are expensive, but the interior and the whole vibe are so worth it!

A well known name in the city: La Pharmacie Anglaise. Perfectly located at the top of Mont des Arts, it allows for a great view over the city and perhaps a nice sunset before moving on to the drinks.

As part of quite a nice hotel, this rooftop bar offers a-ma-zing cocktails. If you want to choose a bar based on taste, this is it!

Another rooftop in a hotel, with a good lobby bar as well. The Hoxton might be located in a sketchy neighborhood (sorry Botanique), but it’s giving luxury and class. Their cocktails might surprise you!

1. Life is Beautiful
2. Marcelle
3. La Pharmacie Anglaise
4. The Eighth Rooftop
5. The Hoxton
